State of the farm

The farm is starting to outgrow its table. I think I am going to have to expand to another table so I can start some more sprouts for the spring. These are two of my favorites.




This is my avocado tree. It is really taking off. My other avocado tree went dormant after I replanted it, but now it is starting to show some new buds.




This is oregano. It smells really good. I think it could be put on a pizza or in a salad with spinach, or maybe on tacos.

Peanut Butter Hockey Puck

Recently my roommate moved out and took all the pans and spatulas with him so I was in serious need of some kitchen tools. After realizing that a cup makes a poor substitute for a spoon I decided to do something about it. I now have more pans than I ever knew I needed. When I got home from work I decided I better start making use of my investment so I invented this new desert. I call it the peanut butter hockey puck. Here is how you make it.


Ingredients:
ritz crackers
chocolate chips
peanut butter
sunflower seeds




Step 1:
Take those crackers and make some peanut butter sandwiches.




Step 2:
Mix some peanut butter with the chocolate chips in a bowel.



Step 3:
Put that bowel in the microwave and melt those chocolate chips. Stir in the peanut butter as it gets soft.

Step 4:
Throw a peanut butter sandwich in the chocolate and cover it up. Then put it on some kind of sheet covered with wax paper.





Step 4:
Now put some sunflower seeds on top of the chocolate covered sandwich. (This will make you feel like you are at a baseball game.)





Step 5:
After covering up all the sandwiches put them in the refrigerator to cool them down.

My new hobby is making things out of paper. This set of "sculptures" all possess the same topology.



I think if I could make this out of wood it would make a cool chair. I am considering building a steam bending setup for it.

Transplantations and Vertical Pumpkin Patches.

Happy New Year!




I realized that it is now time for the farm to expand out. My pumpkins were starting to get too big for the pots they were in so I moved them to a milk jug. A friend of mine told me that pumpkins know how to climb trees so I made this trellis so the pumpkins can climb up it. Later I might try to add some kind of vine based fruit as well.

Here I started moving some of the bigger plants into some bigger containers.



This avocado is starting to really take off.




Here are the basil. They smell pretty good, but the oregano is my favorite. I can't wait to make a pizza out of it.




On an unrelated note I downloaded the openKinect Drivers and started to get them to work. It took some figuring out for me but I got the OpenCV wrappers to work as well. I am planning to write some code that uses the Kinect for something. I just have not figured out what yet. I need to sit and think about it.

The Christmas Comback

The Farm has made a comeback just in time for Christmas. I expect this time when I leave for Christmas I will relocate the farm with me to Colorado. Pretty much all my old plants are growing back now and even better than before. I think I will re-pt them when I get back.




Here another one of my avocado seeds is starting to turn into a tree.



One of my coworkers had some tomatoes left from her garden last year so I took the seeds out and dried them and planted them. They are now on their way.

Liberation

Now that I know the engine can still run I went ahead and pulled it out of the chassis. The next step is to pull out the electrical system and salvage the parts I can still use. I will probably reuse the brake system, drive sprocket, and maybe the shock. The rest of it probably won't have too much use. I can almost see the sparks flying.

Spitting in the face of Despair

7 years ago this motorcycle drove through a tree and wrecked into a fence. It was then resigned to sit next to a shed 7 miles west of Pueblo, Co. That is until today... I dedicated this weekend to getting this machine to roar to life once again. I had cleaned the carbs out a few weeks ago. Yesterday I started trouble shooting the electrical system with my roomate Judd. It turned out I needed to get pretty intimately familiar with it. I ended up bypassing/shorting out a bunch of interlocks and changing some of the fuse box. Then after a little sweet talking, I was able to get it to roar to life. The fuel delivery is a little flaky, but I can deal with that later. Now that I am confident it can run it is time to pull the engine and start designing a new chassis for my autonomous motorcycle-engined car.





On the farm front, I have now replanted most all of the crop. I was worried I would not have any tomatoes because I used all my seeds up the last time I planted. Luckily, one of my coworkers/master gardener found some more in her refrigerator and gave them to me. I dried the seeds out and am anxiously awainted them to sprout.

On an unrelated note I also started playing with some ideas I got from some Christmas decorations at the work cafeteria. I am debating making one of these from steam-bent wood.
